Taipei: The National Police Agency (NPA) on Monday announced a list of personnel adjustments and promotions, including the promotion of highway police chief Liao Mei-ling, who will become the NPA's first female deputy director-general. The list covers 146 high-ranking police officers approved by the Ministry of the Interior who will all assume their new positions on Jan. 16.
According to Focus Taiwan, Chen Yong-li, one of the NPA's three deputy directors-general, informed reporters that the personnel changes were made based on the officers' various areas of expertise and work performance. Chen praised Liao, currently commissioner of the National Highway Police Bureau, for her extensive experience and numerous academic achievements, marking a historic moment as the NPA welcomes its first female deputy director-general.
A graduate of Central Police University, Liao later earned a Master's degree in political science at National Taiwan University. Her professional career includes roles such as assistant director-general of the NPA, commissioner of the Railway Police Bureau, and deputy commissioner of the Taoyuan Police Department.
