Taipei, A firefighter who was critically injured in a fire at an electronics factory in Taoyuan City on April 28 died Sunday, bringing the death toll from the blaze to eight.
Lin Wei-hsi (???), one of two firemen who suffered serious injuries in the fire, had been in state of unconsciousness at the city's Landseed Hospital for the past few days, doctors said.
Despite efforts to resuscitate him, he passed away Sunday due to irreversible brain damage caused by a lack of oxygen during the fire, the hospital said.
He was the eighth victim of the fire that broke out at a factory owned by Chin Poon Industrial Co.
The fire claimed the lives of five other firemen, who were trapped by a collapsed structure during a rescue effort, and two migrant workers, according to the city's fire department.
Landseed Hospital said Monday that Lin had signed an organ and tissue donation consent form before he died, which means that his heart, liver, blood vessels and corneas will donate to others, in keeping with his final wishes.
The other fireman who was critically injured in the fire, Lu Tsung-yu (???), was still in an intensive care unit at the hospital, doctors said.
