Job openings in local manufacturing sector fall to 7-year low: DGBAS

The number of job openings in Taiwan's manufacturing sector at the end of August fell to 77,000, the lowest level for the month in seven years as global economic growth slowed, the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) said Wednesday.

According to the DGBAS' biannual survey, the number of job positions to be filled at the end of August was down by 13,000, or 15 percent, from a year earlier.

The job vacancy rate stood at 2.6 percent -- also a seven-year low -- down 0.46 percentage points from a year earlier, it said in a news release.

The DGBAS said the falls are in line with the moderating pace of export growth in Taiwan, which has been impacted by weakening global demand.

Meanwhile, the number of job openings for the industrial (including manufacturing) and service sectors stood at 230,000 at the end of August, down 18,000 from a year earlier, the DGBAS said.
