Taipei: Andrew Hsia, vice chairman of Taiwan's main opposition Kuomintang (KMT), is set to depart for Europe on Sunday evening, with scheduled visits to Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Belgium, as announced by the party on Saturday.
According to Focus Taiwan, Hsia stated that the purpose of his visit is to demonstrate the KMT's commitment to defending freedom and democracy while contributing to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the broader Indo-Pacific region. He also intends to use this opportunity to engage in discussions with politicians and scholars in the U.K., Belgium, and Denmark to facilitate a better understanding of Taiwan opposition's perspective within the international community.
Hsia will attend the Copenhagen Democracy Summit in the Danish capital from May 13-14 and the IDU Forum in Brussels, Belgium, from May 14-15, as per details shared by the KMT. Additionally, his itinerary includes a stop in the U.K., where he is scheduled to participate in a talk hosted by King's College, Cambridge.
Accompanying Hsia on this tour will be Lin Chu-chia, a special advisor to the KMT chairman and head of the party's mainland affairs department, along with Chen Yi-hsin and Huang Tzu-chuan from the party's international affairs department. However, the KMT has not yet disclosed further specifics about the duration of Hsia's stay in Europe.
