Lai Urges DPP Lawmakers to See Trump’s Policies as an Opportunity

Taipei: President Lai Ching-te on Sunday called on ruling party lawmakers to view potential policy shifts under U.S. President Donald Trump as an opportunity rather than a challenge.

According to Focus Taiwan, DPP legislative caucus secretary-general Wu Szu-yao reported that Lai advised Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislators to consider the uncertainty that might accompany Trump's return to the White House as a chance for Taiwan to strengthen its global position and expand its influence.

Lai reassured lawmakers, through Wu, that Taiwan's national security and economic teams are prepared to respond to any changes in U.S. policy. He also highlighted the growing pressure from Beijing, noting that China's threats are increasing. In light of this, Lai emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong national defense and a resilient economy to counter external challenges.

In anticipation of the upcoming legislative session, Lai urged DPP lawmakers to remain steadfast in defending Taiwan's democracy and sovereignty, Wu conveyed.
