Taiwan’s independent Legislator Freddy Lim (???) said Wednesday that he will attend the June 9-10 Copenhagen Democracy Summit, where he will discuss standing up to authoritarian bullying from China with foreign parliamentarians.

Lim said on social media that he will take part in discussions with German, Indian and Ugandan members of parliament during the summit, organized by the Alliance of Democracies, a non-governmental organization.

He hopes to use the opportunity to ensure Taiwan’s voice is heard and learn from other countries, Lim said.

Other Taiwan lawmakers attending the summit include Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Fan Yun (??), Kuomintang Legislator Hsieh Yi-fong (???), New Power Party Legislator Claire Wang (???), and Taiwan People’s Party Legislator Chiu Chen-yuan (???).

The summit, now in its fifth year, will call for unity among leaders in various fields to stem the advance of authoritarianism, particularly in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

It will also feature discussions on the relationship between technology and democracy, as well as ways to defend Ukraine, counter authoritarian power, and build an alliance of democracies, organizers said.

Speakers at the summit will include Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonyte and former United States President Barack Obama.

Last year, Republic of China (Taiwan) President Tsai Ing-wen (???) delivered a keynote speech by video at the summit, urging democracies around the world to stand together to defend their shared values in the face of the threat posed by the expansion of authoritarian regimes.
