The Legislature is holding an extraordinary session from Jan. 5-20 to process the central government's 2017 budget bill and two others.
During interparty negotiations chaired by Legislative Speaker Su Jia-chyuan (???) on Thursday, it was agreed that lawmakers will address only three bills during the extraordinary session, instead of the six proposed by lawmakers of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party.
Apart from the 2017 budget bill, the other two on the agenda of the extraordinary session are draft amendments to the Electricity Act and the Long-Term Care Services Act.
After the extraordinary session ends Jan. 20, the Legislature will go on recess until Feb. 17, when the new session is scheduled to open.
