Taipei, A series of limited edition alcoholic beverages launched for President Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文) upcoming inauguration will soon hit the shelves, Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corp. (TTL) said Monday.
The series comprises a beer, two whiskeys, an aged kaoliang and a Shaoxing wine, with the designs of the bottles done by Aaron Nieh (聶永真), the graphic designer behind the recent “Taiwan can help” ad published in the New York Times, the state-run company said.
The design is centered on the words “ready,” “blossoming,” “heritage,” “direction,” and “sunlight,” which signify that Taiwan is ready to blossom on the global stage, and will do so with its heritage in mind, TTL said.
“Even if there are clouds ahead, the sun will be able to shine through, leading Taiwan to find the right direction,” TTL said.
The limited-edition beer design carries a similar meaning, according to TTL.
The firework graphics on the bottle convey a sense of “blossoming” on the global stage, as well as the blossoming of democracy in Taiwan, with the different fireworks representing different voices in society, TTL said.
All five products in the series are limited edition, with the beer hitting the shelves first on May 6, TTL said.
The remaining four will be available for purchase on May 20, though customers can pre-order the single malt whiskey, kaoliang and Shaoxing wine from May 6 to May 19, TTL said.
President Tsai won re-election in January and will be inaugurated for a second term with Vice President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on May 20.
