LOT Polish Airlines launches Taiwan codeshare service
Taipei, Dec. 2 (CNA) LOT Polish Airlines has started a codeshare partnership with Singapore Airlines covering the Singapore-Taiwan route to expand its service network in Asia.
The codeshare service began on Nov. 28 on four weekly flights between Singapore and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport after being approved earlier in the month, Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) confirmed on Sunday.
Taiwan and Poland signed an air transport agreement in March 2015 under which carriers designated by the two countries can provide aviation services between Taiwan and Poland based on demand after getting regulatory approval, according to the CAA.
Under the pact, Taiwanese carriers are allowed to operate flights departing from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport or Kaohsiung International Airport and transit through three stops at most before reaching Warsaw or two other destinations in Poland, the CAA said.
Domestic carriers, however, have yet to launch such flights, the CAA said.
LOT Polish Airlines has been expanding its route network in Asia and has been exploring the Taiwan market on a trial basis, a Taiwan travel agency commissioned by the airline said, and the trial period will begin through the codeshare service with Singapore Airlines.
