Taipei--A 3.5-magnitude earthquake occurred in waters off Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 2:07 p.m. Sunday, according to the Central Weather Bureau.
The quake's epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean about 17.1 kilometers northeast of the Hualien County Hall building at a depth of 17 km, the bureau's data showed.
It was felt most strongly in the Taroko scenic area in northern Hualien, where it registered 4 on Taiwan's 1-7 earthquake intensity scale, and an intensity of 2 was felt in Nan'ao Township in Yilan County, the bureau said.
