Hualien: A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

According to Focus Taiwan, the epicenter of the temblor was located at sea, 9.7 kilometers south-southeast from Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 25.3 km, as shown by CWA data.

The intensity of the quake, gauging the actual effect of a seismic event, was highest in Hualien and Nantou, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale. The quake also measured an intensity of 3 in parts of Yilan, Taichung, and Changhua.

There were no immediate reports of damage following the quake.
