Taipei, A magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolted southern Taiwan at 5:22 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 30.7 kilometers east of Chiayi County Hall at a depth of 17.9 km, the bureau's Seismology Center said.
The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in Chiayi's Dapu Township and Nanxi District in nearby Tainan City, where it measured 5 on Taiwan's 7-tiered intensity scale.
The earthquake was felt in central and southern Taiwan and measured an intensity of 4 in parts of Chiayi and Kaohsiung.
As of press time, there were no reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake.
