Maker Wisdom Expo scheduled for November in Kaohsiung
The 2016 Maker Wisdom Expo, an event that allows makers, artists and organizations to showcase examples of their work and interact with others, will take place at the Chung Cheng Martial Arts Stadium in Kaohsiung on Nov. 19-20, organizers said on Wednesday.
Now in its second year, the expo will include 125 booths set up by 65 schools and businesses to show exhibitions, presentations and demonstrations, according to the Kaohsiung City government, one of the organizers.
The expo provides a stage for teachers and students to share the knowledge and skills they have learned and promote the do-it-yourself spirit of makers, said Kaohsiung Bureau of Education Director Fan Sun-lu (???).
The event encourages students to make their dream of interacting with the wider world come true by taking part in international invention competitions, according to Fan.
It also provides opportunities for makers to cooperate with schools, makers' associations and businesses at home and aboard, Fan added.
Shi Wen-chung (???), director of the Kaohsiung Maker Association, said the event is designed to provide young people with a platform to demonstrate their DIY skills and give children hands-on experience of making things with tools and technology available at the expo.
Three elementary school students from Kaohsiung did particularly well at the World Contest 2016 International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI) held in Harbin, China, in July.
Chen Jo-ya (???) and Wu Yen-cheng (???) won a gold medal in the green technology and technology for special needs (under 14 years old) category with their invention of a vacuum bottle for the blind.
Huang Po-yen (???), who won a gold medal in 2015, on this occasion received a silver medal with his invention of a slide phone with three lenses in the education and recreation (under 14 years old) category.
