NAMYANGJU, South Korea, - A district court sentenced a man in his 30s to seven years in prison Thursday for drugging a middle schooler with a spiked drink and raping her at a motel after she lost consciousness.
The Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court handed down the prison term to the 30-year-old, saying the defendant had premeditated the crime. The court also ordered the defendant undergo 120 hours of sexual offense treatment program and banned him from working at child-related facilities for 10 years.
The 30-year-old was indicted for serving a spiked drink containing zolpidem, an insomnia medication, to the victim after meeting her via social media, then taking her to a motel in Seoul's Gangnam district and raping her, before running away with her cell phone in May.
The man had admitted to drugging the victim and taking her to a motel but denied the rape charges.
However, the court on Thursday found the defendant guilty of all charges, including rape.
