Taipei--The temperature in Taipei set a new high for the year Tuesday afternoon when the mercury hit 36.8 degrees Celsius, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.
The reading was recorded at 2:11 p.m., according to CWB data.
Taipei had not experienced temperatures above 36 degrees this year before Tuesday.
The highest temperature recorded in all of Taiwan in 2017 was 38.2 degrees in Dawu Township in Taitung County on June 24.
Other parts of Taiwan also experienced hot weather on Tuesday due to a strong high pressure system over the Pacific Ocean, but none had temperatures as high as Taipei's, the CWB said.
