Temperatures across northern Taiwan are forecast to dip to about 20 degrees Celsius early Tuesday morning, with the wet weather likely to continue into the weekend, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
Due to the effect of seasonal northeasterly winds, lows of 21-22 degrees are also expected in central and southern Taiwan in the early hours that day, CWB forecaster Tseng Chao-cheng (曾昭誠) said.
Meanwhile, the wet weather will become more prominent in areas north of Taoyuan and the eastern half of the country, Tseng said, with heavy rainfall expected in some parts of northeastern Taiwan between Wednesday and Thursday.
From Wednesday, warmer weather is expected and highs could reach 26 degrees in the north and 30 degrees in other parts of the country, he added.
Rain will subside across most of the country on Friday, but a tropical disturbance bringing abundant moisture combined with the northeasterly wind system are forecast to bring intermittent rain to northern regions as well as eastern Taiwan at the weekend, the forecaster said.
Some areas of northeastern Taiwan including coastal Keelung could see heavy rainfall during this period, with cloudy to sunny weather forecast elsewhere, Tseng added.
