Taipei--The Supreme Court on Monday upheld a conviction against a military officer for sexually assaulting his wife's Indonesian caregiver.
The Taoyuan resident, identified by his surname Tang (?), was sentenced to a prison term of three years and 10 months, according to the court ruling.
In its verdict, the court said Tang hired the victim in October 2012 to take care of his wife, who suffered from kidney disease and was hospitalized at the time.
One month later, Tang took the victim out of the hospital, drove her to a parking lot nearby, and raped her in his car, the verdict said.
In January 2013, after his wife had been discharged from the hospital and returned home, Tang again raped the victim, this time in his wife's room, when his wife was asleep, according to the verdict.
The victim later became pregnant with Tang's baby and went back to Indonesia in October that same year, the court said.
The case came to light when the victim filed a complaint via a migrant workers protection hotline set up by Taiwan's Ministry of Labor.
