Taipei:The Taiwanese government announced that Morocco has resumed accepting tourism visa applications from Taiwanese passport holders, effective last week. This comes after a two-month suspension that began in July.

According to Focus Taiwan, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) reported that its office in Tokyo received confirmation from the Moroccan Embassy in Japan about the resumption of Visa Confirmation Letters (VCLs) for Taiwanese tourists starting September 21. However, the embassy has not resumed VCL applications for non-tourism purposes.

Due to these ongoing restrictions, MOFA stated it will continue to withhold visa applications from Moroccan nationals until the limitations are lifted. This announcement followed a local travel agency's report that the Moroccan Embassy in Japan had communicated the resumption of visa applications for Taiwanese travelers.

The Moroccan Embassy in Japan initially halted its VCL review process for Taiwanese travelers on July 23 without providing an explanation. In response, citing reciprocity, MOFA suspended visa processing for Moroccan nationals from July 31, with exceptions for government-approved special projects.

The suspension had significantly impacted two-way exchanges, as Taiwanese passport holders can only obtain a VCL through the Moroccan Embassy in Japan and are not eligible for a Moroccan e-visa.
