Taipei Metro will allow passengers to travel with bicycles or large-sized pet strollers from 10 p.m. to the end of service on weekdays from June 20, in addition to the existing time periods in which those items are allowed, the company said Friday.
The bicycle access points to the Taipei mass rapid transit (MRT) at 83 of its 131 stations will remain the same after the new time slot is open, Taipei Metro said in a statement issued Friday.
In addition to the new slot, regular bicycles are allowed to be taken on the MRT system at these 83 stations unpacked on weekends, holidays, and between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays, according to Taipei Metro’s current policy.
Bicycle access is available at MRT stations except the following ones: Tamsui Station, Zhongshan Station, Taipei Main Station, Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station, Zhongxiao Fuxing Station, Nanjing Fuxing Station, and Daan Station, as well as all stations on the Circular Line and the Wenhu Line.
If a bicycle is packed as a carry-on object, which does not exceed 165 cm in length and 220 cm in the sum of its length, width and height, it can be brought onto MRT trains as luggage during general service hours, according to the current policy.
Meanwhile, passengers are allowed to carry a large-sized pet stroller, with the sum of the length, width, and height between 176 cm and 210 cm, onto MRT trains on weekends, holidays and between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays.
Those passengers may access the MRT system on 86 stations on the Tamsui-Xinyi Line, Songshan-Xindian Line, Zhonghe-Xinlu Line, and Bannan Line, excluding Taipei Main Station, Daan Station, Nanjing Fuxing Station, Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station, and Zhongxiao Fuxing Station.
Passengers with a pet stroller with a combined dimension of less than 175 cm may still enter or exit from any station during service hours without having to purchase an additional ticket, according to the statement.
According to Taipei Metro, a passenger should buy a NT$80 (US$2.69) flat-fare single journey ticket when traveling with either a bicycle or a large-sized pet stroller.
