Taipei--During the four-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, which starts on Saturday, national freeways will be toll-free from midnight to 5 a.m.
The Ministry of Transportation and Communications made the announcement Thursday, a departure from its originally declared plan of having two separate time periods.
The ministry said last week that the toll-free time would be midnight to 5 a.m. on May 27 and May 30, but 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. on May 28 and May 29.
However, following a public outcry over the original plan, the ministry "decided to listen to the public," according to a Cabinet spokesperson on Thursday.
Questioned about the ministry's change of mind, Hsu Kuo-yung (???) said the plan had been revised after considering the public interest.
