Netflix Unveils Talent Cultivation Program to Boost Mandarin Content in Taiwan

Taipei: Video streaming giant Netflix is launching a talent cultivation program in Taiwan aimed at producing high-quality Mandarin content, the company announced in a press release.

According to Focus Taiwan, Netflix's head of Chinese language content Maya Huang emphasized the company's ongoing investment in the Taiwanese market, highlighting the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity launched last year. This fund will continue to focus on discovering content that can be developed into Mandarin Chinese projects.

The new initiative's financing seeks to establish an ecosystem for content creators and professional development programs. A significant feature of the talent projects is a training program centered on practical script development.

The five-month intensive scriptwriting program, co-developed with local production company Yiyi Pictures, aims to cultivate scriptwriter-assistants. Trainees will learn to operate in a writers' room environment, gaining skills in scriptwriting, pitches, and the broader content production industry.

Prospective scriptwriters can apply on the Netflix website until midnight July 24, with the program running from Sept. 15 to Feb. 13 next year. Additionally, Netflix will collaborate with Taiwan's Film and Television Production Association to train future film and television production trainees.

Production trainees will learn to navigate Netflix culture and gain practical experience through apprenticeships in actual productions. Interested applicants can sign up until midnight July 13, with the course taking place from July 24-25. The duration of practical internships will vary based on the availability of partnering crews and their projects.
