Taipei, A consumer who spent NT$15 buying a newspaper was one of the winners of the NT$10 million jackpot in the January-February uniform invoice lottery, according to the list of winners released by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) Tuesday.
The record number of 20 winners each take home NT$10 million (US$324,391), the MOF announced, adding that another 11 people won the NT$2 million grand prize.
The winning number for the NT$10 million jackpot for January and February is 00106725 while that for the NT$2 million grand prize is 90819218.
Winnings can be claimed from April 6 to July 5, 2019, the MOF said.
The ministry implemented a range of prize-claiming measures in January, so prizes can now be claimed through mobile APPs or from redemption outlets including designated banks, farmers' and fishermen's Associations, credit unions, convenience stores and grocery marts.
One of the winners of the NT$10 million special prize bought a newspaper for NT$15 at a convenience store in Chiayi County while four of the winners spent less than NT$100 to win NT$2 million prize. The dates of the purchases were not revealed on the MOF list.
The uniform invoice lottery system, which draws winning numbers every two months, was created to encourage consumers to collect sales invoices as part of the ministry's efforts to prevent tax evasion by business establishments.
