No injuries after ceiling panel falls to ground at Taoyuan airport
Taipei, A ceiling panel in a lounge in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport fell to the ground late Sunday as a result of water seepage but no injuries were reported, Taoyuan Airport Corp. said Monday.
The incident took place in lounge D7, which is on the second floor of Terminal 2, the company said in a statement, adding that it did not cause injury or delay operations at the airport.
However, some travelers described the chaotic scene after the panel fell to the ground as very messy, with water falling from the hole in the ceiling like "a waterfall," forcing passengers to leave the lounge.
An initial investigation has determined that the incident was caused because the ceiling panel soaked up water that leaked from a drainage pipe in a restaurant on the third floor, the company said.
The company said it has fixed the problem and will make sure it does not happen again.
