Taipei: All 13 Control Yuan members unanimously voted to impeach National Security Bureau (NSB) Major General Hsieh Ching-hua for indecently assaulting a woman in February. The case will now be handed to the Disciplinary Court for trial, according to a press statement released by the Control Yuan.According to Focus Taiwan, the government watchdog revealed that Hsieh was found to have forcibly kissed a woman on the sidewalk, an incident that was caught on camera and subsequently exposed by the press. The Control Yuan emphasized that Hsieh had consumed alcohol prior to the incident, which further compounded the severity of his actions. The statement from the Control Yuan highlighted that Hsieh lied during the NSB investigation, resulting in the agency disseminating false information to the public. This behavior not only violated the victim but also tarnished the reputation of NSB special agents. The Control Yuan underscored that NSB personnel are subjected to higher scrutiny and held to stricter standards t han other public servants due to the critical nature of the agency's national intelligence work. This incident has therefore raised significant concerns regarding the conduct expected of individuals in such positions.Meanwhile, the NSB has expressed its commitment to respecting the conclusions reached by the Control Yuan and pledged to fully cooperate with the forthcoming Disciplinary Court trial. In response to the incident, the bureau has also vowed to enhance the training its personnel receive and ensure that any misconduct is appropriately addressed.
