Taipei: Nearly 2,300 people participated in a Penghu County road race on Sunday, with each finisher receiving a one-kilogram grouper.
According to Focus Taiwan, the "Run in Penghu" event began at 8 a.m. in front of the Penghu County government building in Magong City. Penghu Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu and other local officials were present to see off the runners.
The county government reported that participants had the option to register for either a full 11-kilometer race or a 5-kilometer route designed for both adults and children. Finishers reached the final point at Magong Caiyuan's Soil and Water Conservation Classroom, where they could claim a frozen grouper or a voucher for a grouper-related meal.
The annual Run in Penghu race aims to promote winter tourism in the outlying island county.
