The Taichung Wagor Suns secured second spot in T1 LEAGUE’s six-team regular-season standings after powering past the Taoyuan Leopards 112-97 on Friday.
With their defeat of the Leopards, the Suns collect their fourth consecutive win and a 19-9 card and are now guaranteed to finish second in the regular-season standings, which will see them enter the playoff semifinals as the second-seeded side.
Meanwhile, the Leopards are currently ranked fifth with a 6-20 record.
At the post-game press conference speaking after securing the second top spot, Suns head coach Iurgi Caminos said they started the season slow, but grew as a team which enabled them to achieve Friday’s victory.
“The first thing I did in the locker room was congratulate my players,” Caminos said.
Back at the game, the Leopards led 49-45 at half time, before the Suns rallied in the second half to overtake on the scoreboard and pull away in the fourth quarter.
Leopards forward Troy Williams led all scorers with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Suns forward Sani Sakakini recorded 20 points and 19 rebounds.
Dreamers climb to top
In Taiwan’s other pro basketball P. LEAGUE+ Formosa Taishin Dreamers collected their fifth consecutive win to climb to the top of the six-team rankings with a 16-9 card after defeating the Hsinchu Jko Lioneers, ending the team’s run of seven consecutive wins 92-85 at Hsinchu County Stadium. The Lioneers fall to second place in the rankings with a 16-10 card.
Lioneers forward Mike Bruesewitz led all scorers with a double-double of 21 points and 20 rebounds, while Dreamers center Stefan Jankovic trailed with 20 points and nine rebounds.
