Paraguay President Visits Southern Taiwan Science Park to Strengthen Tech Ties

Tainan: Accompanied by President Lai Ching-te, Paraguayan President Santiago Pe±a on Saturday visited the Southern Taiwan Science Park in Tainan, a hub for tech giants like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Presidential Office stated that Pe±a, who arrived in Taiwan on Thursday, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to tour the nation's high-tech center. During his visit, he observed Taiwan's advancements in the semiconductor and high-tech sectors. Pe±a commended Taiwan for its foresight in technological innovation over the past four decades, which has positioned the country as a leader in these industries.

Pe±a highlighted the differences between Paraguay and Taiwan, such as language and culture, and the physical distance of about 19,000 kilometers separating the two countries. Despite these differences, he emphasized the shared goals of prosperity and success in academia, innovation, and high-tech development. The state visit, he noted, has provided valuable insights into Taiwan's integration of government, industry, and academia to drive high-tech progress, a model he aspires to implement in Paraguay.

President Lai responded by affirming Taiwan's commitment to sharing its experiences in technology development, science park governance, and industrial upgrades with Paraguay, one of its 12 diplomatic allies. In addition to the science park visit, Pe±a also toured the National Center for High-performance Computing on Saturday, as reported by the Presidential Office.
