Taipei-Heavy rain can be expected in northern and northeastern Taiwan, in particular Keelung City and Yilan County, from Thursday afternoon due to the periphery of Tropical Storm Fung-Wong, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
As of 8 a.m. Thursday, Fung-Wong was centered 464 kilometers southeast of Eluanbi, Taiwan's southernmost tip, moving at a speed of 13 kph in a north-northeasterly direction.
Although the tropical storm is not expected to directly affect Taiwan, the bureau has issued heavy rain warnings for greater Taipei, Keelung and Yilan.
The bureau did not rule out the possibility of issuing a sea warning for the storm later in the evening, if it suddenly changes course and veers closer to Taiwan.
According to the CWB, Fung-Wong could be reduced to a tropical depression as it skirts further away from Taiwan Friday.
On Thursday, weather in northern Taiwan is expected to warm up a little from a day earlier, with daytime temperatures forecast to range between 23-24 degrees Celsius, the bureau said.
As central and southern Taiwan will likely see less rainfall, temperature highs are forecast to range between 26-28 degrees during the day, it added.
