Police announced Saturday that they have busted a telecommunication fraud ring based in Taoyuan that targets people in China.
Eleven people, led by a 41-year-old man surnamed Huang, were arrested in a raid conducted in the city's Zhongli District on Thursday, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) said in a statement.
The ring began to operate there in September, and posed as telecom company staff, police officers and prosecutors to defraud their victims, who were mainly in Shanxi, Guangxi and Guizhou, according to the bureau.
Police have turned the suspects over to prosecutors for investigation and requested Chinese authorities to help with the investigation of the victims, the CIB said.
