PHOTO ESSAY/Taiwan Pride 2022 continues embrace of gender identities

Tens of thousands turned out for Taiwan Pride Sunday, as Asia’s largest LGBTQ Pride event returned to the streets of Taipei after a one-year hiatus.

Since 2010, the annual Pride parade has been held on the last Saturday in October, which this year fell on Oct. 29.

There was an enthusiastic turnout for the 20th edition of the event, which was held virtually in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As with years previous, the “An Unlimited Future”-themed parade attracted members of Taiwan’s foreign community.
Some of those in attendance came from countries such as Honduras, Malaysia, and Singapore that have yet to recognize and legalize marriage equality.
One notable group in attendance was Kyiv Pride.
The group of Ukrainians held signs to bring awareness to LGBTQ+ awareness as well as the plight currently faced by their fellow countrymen due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Once again, the annual event was headed by a march organized to bring awareness to Taiwan’s transgender community, a tradition started in 2018.
