A township in Taiwan's Pingtung County on Saturday broke the Guinness Record for the longest rice noodle by making a rice noodle 675.2-meters long.
Wanluan Township Office first challenged the record at last year's Pork Knuckle Festival, asking people to form a long line and hold the broad rice noodle with their hands, but the noodle broke at 210 meters, a far cry from the Guinness Record of 548.7 meters, set in 2011 by a noodle made for Taiwan's Hakka Affairs Council.
The office gave it another try at this year's festival, claiming it had found a better way to accomplish the feat, and it invited people to again give the township office a chance to break the record.
This time, they placed a plastic wrap on tables and put the broad rice noodle on the wrap.
As the noodle rolled out of the machine, participants kept it straight, and it did not snap until reaching a length of 675.2 meters.
Wanluan Township chief Lin Pi-chuan (???) said preparations had been made for a 950-meter-long noodle, and it was unfortunate that it snapped at about 70 percent of the anticipated length.
