Taipei-Seven suspects have been arrested and eight kilograms of amphetamines and 200 kg of raw materials have been seized in raids of two amphetamine factories and other locations earlier this month, police in Pingtung said Wednesday.
Pingtung police received a tipoff early December that two individuals surnamed Wang and Lin were using extracted ephedrine for the manufacture of amphetamines and selling the finished products to obtain illegal gains.
A special team formed by police and prosecutors in Pingtung and Tainan then launched an investigation into the case.
It raided four locations in Pingtung and Tainan on Dec. 9 and Dec. 22, arresting seven suspects and seizing 8.6 kg of amphetamines and 200 kg of raw materials, which would have had a market value of up to NT$100 million (US$3.33 million) had they been processed into finished products, police said.
The case has been handed over to the Pingtung District Prosecutors Office and the Tainan District Prosecutors Office for further investigation.
