Taipei: Electricity has been fully restored to more than 40,000 households in Taitung after Typhoon Podul swept through the county earlier this week, Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) said Saturday. Power was fully restored for users in Taitung after the last few emergency repairs were completed at around 10 p.m. on Friday, Taipower's Taitung District Office confirmed in a statement.
According to Focus Taiwan, the typhoon made landfall in Taimali Township in eastern Taiwan on Wednesday, causing power outages to 42,113 households in the county. The outages were primarily due to fallen trees that cut power lines in mountainous areas and resulted in the toppling of 22 utility poles. In response, Taipower deployed two repair crews the following day to replace the poles and focused on repairing and straightening power lines on Friday.
Taipower reported that its technicians faced challenging conditions as they navigated treacherous terrain littered with debris from landslides and damaged roads. Despite these obstacles, each restoration effort, which could take as little as one hour or up to half a day, typically brought power back to 20 to 30 households.
Taipower advised that if any households are still without electricity, they should contact the company, which will send personnel to inspect the situation.
