Taipei, President Tsai Ing-wen (???) hailed Wednesday the contribution made by the outgoing Saint Lucia ambassador, expressing hope that bilateral relations will continue to build on the current solid foundation.
"Today is a hard day because Ambassador Hubert Emmanuel will bid farewell to Taiwan," Tsai said in a news release after meeting with Emmanuel at the Presidential Office earlier in the day.
"Though Emmanuel will return to his country, friendship between our two countries will continue to flourish. On behalf of the people of Taiwan, I would like to thank him for his efforts at promoting bilateral cooperation in all fields," Tsai said.
The president also lauded Emmanuel for boosting trade and economic ties between the two countries and for helping facilitate visits to Taiwan by ranking officials from Saint Lucia, such as Prime Minister Allen Chastanet and President of the Senate Andy Daniel.
In recent years, Taiwan and the Caribbean diplomatic ally have also cooperated in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, telecommunications, public health and education, with impressive results, she said.
Tsai asked Emmanuel to convey greetings from the people of Taiwan to Saint Lucia Governor-General Emmanuel Neville Cenac, and called for the mutually beneficial relationship to continue through a range of cooperative ventures.
