President Tsai to end self-isolation, meet with visiting U.S. delegation

President Tsai Ing-wen (???) will meet with a visiting United States Congressional delegation Friday, hours after completing mandatory self-isolation after being exposed to an individual with COVID-19, according to the Presidential Office.

The president will receive the bipartisan group led by the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, Lindsey Graham, at the Presidential Office Friday morning and exchange views on issues of interest to both countries, Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (???) said in a statement Thursday.

The Office hopes that through the in-person meeting, both sides will further their bilateral partnership and find ways to contribute to the stability and prosperity of the region and the world, Chang said.

The U.S. delegation, comprising six lawmakers and their staff, arrived in Taipei on Thursday evening as part of a larger visit to the Indo-Pacific region, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) said in a statement Thursday.

The AIT added that the delegation will discuss Taiwan-U.S. ties and regional security, among other issues with Taiwanese officials during their brief visit, which ends Friday evening.

The delegation will be the first group of foreign guests to meet with Tsai after the president completes her self-isolation at midnight on Thursday.

In a separate statement, Chang said Tsai would resume her public schedule starting Friday as she observes seven-days of self-health management that will last through April 21.

Tsai took a rapid antigen and a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for the virus Thursday afternoon, and both came back negative, the statement added.

The president began self-isolation on April 8 after having lunch at the presidential residence on April 4 with a relative who was later diagnosed with COVID-19.
