Presidential office to monitor situation before deciding on DP leader’s proposal for talks: official

SEOUL, – The presidential office needs to first monitor the situation before deciding on opposition leader Lee Jae-myung’s proposal for talks among him, President Yoon Suk Yeol and the ruling party leader, a senior official said Wednesday.

Lee, the chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), made the suggestion Monday, the day he returned to his party duties, apparently in response to an earlier suggestion by Rep. Kim Gi-hyeon, the leader of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), for one-on-one talks.

Kim’s proposal for one-on-one talks with Lee prompted the presidential office to monitor the situation, Lee Jin-bok, the senior presidential secretary for political affairs, told reporters at the National Assembly after a meeting with Ihn Yohan, the PPP’s newly appointed innovation chief.
