The Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) on Tuesday suspended services on several lines due to landslides and damage to tracks caused by persistent rain brought by the outer periphery of Tropical Storm Aere.
A section of track near Luye Station in Taitung County was damaged earlier that day by landslides caused by heavy rain due to the peripheral effects of the storm, disrupting services on several sections of railway lines, including one from Shanli and Ruihe.
TRA said that repair work was not expected to be completed until late Thursday.
Meanwhile, services between Gongliao and Shuangxi in New Taipei were disrupted after torrential rain eroded the track bed on the section.
Accumulated rainfall reached 1,030 millimeters in Gongliao over Saturday and Sunday, according to data from the Central Weather Bureau.
