Taipei: A passing weather front is predicted to bring showers and thunderstorms across most of Taiwan from Thursday to Saturday, as reported by the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
According to Focus Taiwan, central, northern, and eastern Taiwan, along with the outlying Matsu and Kinmen islands, can expect scattered showers and thunderstorms on Thursday. In contrast, southern Taiwan is likely to experience partly cloudy to sunny skies, with sporadic afternoon thundershowers.
Daytime temperatures are forecasted to range from 27-29 degrees Celsius in northern and eastern Taiwan on Thursday, while other regions could see temperatures between 32-34 degrees Celsius. However, the CWA anticipates cooler conditions in northern and northeastern Taiwan from Thursday night, as northeasterly winds strengthen, dropping temperatures to 21-22 degrees Celsius. Other areas are expected to see lows of 24-25 degrees Celsius.
The CWA has also issued warnings about poor visibility due to fog and low clouds in central and northern Taiwan, as well as in Kinmen and Matsu on Thursday. It advises air travelers to stay updated and monitor their flights closely. On Friday and Saturday, the influence of northeasterly winds and a cloud system will maintain cool weather in northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan, with sporadic showers and thunderstorms expected nationwide.
The CWA forecasts that the northeasterly winds will begin to weaken on Sunday, leading to a rebound in temperatures in the north, northeast, and east. Occasional showers are anticipated in northern Taiwan, the eastern half of the country, and the Hengchun Peninsula in the south, while other regions will experience cloudy weather.
Looking ahead to Monday next week, another weather front is expected to arrive as northeasterly winds strengthen again, bringing more sporadic showers and thunderstorms across Taiwan, the CWA added.
