Rainy weather forecast later this week: CWB

Chances of rain could increase in the latter half of this week due to strengthening seasonal winds, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Tuesday.

Northern and eastern Taiwan may see sporadic showers between Feb. 2 and Feb. 5 during the Lantern Festival, with daytime highs hovering from 17-23 degrees Celsius, the bureau said.

The rain may be more pronounced on Feb. 4, affecting even central Taiwan as moisture from southern China moves in, the CWB said, adding that drier and warmer weather is likely from Feb. 6.

Meanwhile, the current cold weather across the country is forecast to continue into early Wednesday, when lows of below 10 degrees are possible in areas north of Tainan, according to forecasters.

However, temperatures are expected to rise significantly during the day, with highs predicted to reach 25 degrees in northern Taiwan, 28 degrees in central Taiwan and 30 degrees in the south, the bureau said.
