Rapper Tied to Taiwan Influencer’s Death Vows Cooperation with Probe

Kuala lumpur: Malaysian rapper Namewee, who has been implicated by Malaysian authorities in the alleged murder of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, said Wednesday that he will not flee and will fully cooperate with police investigations. In a post on social media, the rapper stated that he had arrived at the police station and will "fully cooperate with the police investigation to give the public and family of the deceased an explanation."

According to Focus Taiwan, Namewee was present at the scene where Hsieh was reported to have lost consciousness at a Malaysia hotel on October 22. The rapper was subsequently arrested and charged with drug possession and use, although he pleaded not guilty to these charges and was released on bail. A court hearing regarding these charges is scheduled for December 18.

Malaysian police have announced that Hsieh's death is now being classified as a murder investigation, with Namewee implicated in the case. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus mentioned that he believed Namewee was aware of the investigation and was attempting to evade authorities.

Namewee, aged 42, is noted for his music and comments that often address sensitive local and political topics. His outspoken stance on social issues and criticism of the government have drawn attention from Malaysian authorities on several occasions. He gained prominence in Taiwan in 2022 with his song "Fragile," which satirizes nationalistic Chinese internet users, but the song was removed from Chinese music streaming platforms shortly after its release.
