Taipei, The east cross taxiway at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport reopened for operation on Monday, after repairs were completed about 15 hours ahead of schedule, according to the airport management.
In a statement Tuesday, Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) said the taxiway was reopened at 5:30 p.m. on Monday following 9 days of work on a caved-in section.
According to the TIAC, more comprehensive maintenance will be carried out in August on the taxiway but its reopening now reduces the distance planes have to travel to take off and after landing.
The work was completed 15.5 hours ahead of schedule on the section of taxiway, which was closed at 9 a.m. on April 28 for an estimated 10-day maintenance, the TIAC said.
Extensive extension work is being carried out the airport with the construction of third terminal and two parallel taxiways that will replace the current west cross taxiway, according to the TIAC.
