Taipei--Coast Guard officers in offshore Kinmen County handed over a runaway Vietnamese worker to immigration officers in Changhua County, central Taiwan on Wednesday after the woman surrendered to the immigration authorities because she wanted to go home to look after her sick father.
Coast Guard Administration officials stationed in Kinmen said they received information about the runaway worker in Changhua and traveled to the county to meet with the woman, who agreed to be handed over to immigration officials in Changhua, according to the Kinmen officers.
The woman, surnamed Nguyen, aged 35, came to Taiwan in 2012 to work at a manufacturing plant in southern Taiwan. In July 2014, she ran away from her place of employment because the pay was too low and did odd jobs in central Taiwan, the coast guard officials said.
