The Samsung Lions announced Thursday they have signed a former major league pitcher Denyi Reyes.Reyes, 27, has agreed to a one-year deal worth up to US$800,000 -- $500,000 in salary, $100,000 in signing bonus and a maximum of $200,000 in incentives.Acquiring the Dominican right-hander means the Lions have parted ways with David Buchanan, their staff ace for the past four seasons.Reyes has 12 big league games under his belt -- three with the Baltimore Orioles in 2022 and the New York Mets in 2023. He had a 0-2 record with a 6.26 ERA in 27 1/3 innings over 12 outings. In Triple-A last year, Reyes went 2-3 with a 5.79 ERA in 20 outings, including 18 starts. In 2023 for the Mets, Reyes had a five-pitch mix: four-seam fastball, slider, cutter, changeup and sinker. He averaged 91.8 miles per hour with his fastball and limited opponents to a .143 batting average with that pitch. The Lions tried to bring back Buchanan but were unable to narrow their differences, with Buchanan eyeing a return to the majors.Source: Yonhap News Agency
