Taipei, Coffee and light meals will be offered at the San Diego Lighthouse (?????) starting early next year to make it more attractive to visitors, the Maritime Port Bureau said Monday.
There are currently no food or beverage shops on the hill where the lighthouse is located or in nearby areas, and the Maritime Port Bureau decided to fill the gap by putting in a food shop in the open area outside the still-active tower.
Situated on Taiwan's easternmost point, the San Diego Lighthouse has stood watch over waters off the island's northeastern shore for more than 80 years since being built in 1931.
It attracts around 100,000 visitors per year, and is especially popular with couples, the Maritime Port Bureau said.
Also on Monday, the bureau announced that the lighthouse would not be open to the public from now until August 10 due to maintenance, and work on park trails, buildings and the cultural office will also be carried out at that time.
Among the changes being carried out are the installation of barrier-free facilities to the culture office and the addition of audio and video equipment to create a more visitor-friendly experience.
