Taipei: Hot and sunny weather is predicted across Taiwan for the next three days, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Sunday morning, while issuing heat advisories effective through late afternoon. The CWA issued an “orange” alert for Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Taitung County, indicating that daily maximum temperatures will reach 36 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.
According to Focus Taiwan, in New Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County, the CWA issued “yellow” alerts warning of maximum temperatures reaching 36 degrees. The agency reminded people engaging in outdoor activities to take precautions against sun exposure, especially around noon, and to stay hydrated. Sporadic afternoon showers may occur across the island while mountainous regions may see localized heavy rains, the CWA forecast.
Taiwan’s current weather pattern will continue through Tuesday, according to independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong. From Wednesday to Friday, a tropical disturbance is predicted to pass through Luzon Island in the Philippines and enter the South China Sea, bringing in slightly more moisture and increasing the chances of sporadic afternoon rains or thundershowers in the east, mountainous areas, and the Hengchun Peninsula, Wu said. The low-elevation areas where rain is forecast will gradually expand during that period, Wu added.
The tropical disturbance has a 60 percent chance of developing into a tropical depression, but its chances to develop into a strong tropical depression are slim, at about 20 percent. It is projected to have little effect on Taiwan, he noted. On Saturday, humidity will fall and the weather across Taiwan will remain hot and sunny, with chances of afternoon rain limited to mountainous regions and unlikely in low-elevation regions, Wu forecast.
According to weather forecasting models, there are no signs of a northeast monsoon moving southward for the next ten days, indicating that cooler weather will not be imminent, he concluded.
