TAIPEI: Strengthening northeasterly winds are forecasted to bring temperatures in northern Taiwan down to 20 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, as announced by the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The seasonal winds are expected to usher in moisture, resulting in wet and cool conditions across northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan, with temperatures fluctuating between 20 and 26 degrees throughout the day.According to Focus Taiwan, the CWA predicts that Yilan and Hualien counties in the east will experience the most rainfall, with potential for heavy rain in Keelung, along Taiwan's northeastern coast, and in the mountainous regions of the Greater Taipei area. While central and southern Taiwan might experience the seasonal winds' effects to a lesser degree, the CWA forecasts partly sunny skies with daytime highs ranging from 28 to 30 degrees.Sporadic afternoon showers are anticipated in the mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan, with nighttime temperatures expected to drop to between 22 and 2 3 degrees, as per the weather agency. A strong wind advisory has been issued for several regions including Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, and Miaoli County in the north, Taichung City and Changhua County in central Taiwan, and Yunlin County, the Hengchun Peninsula, as well as Orchid and Green Islands in the south. The advisory also extends to the Taiwan-held Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu islands.Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong indicated that moisture in the seasonal winds is likely to decrease on Wednesday and Thursday, leading to more stable weather with only brief showers. However, the potential impact of Tropical Storm Yinxing, located 1,140 kilometers southeast of Cape Eluanbi, Taiwan's southernmost point, as of 2 a.m. Tuesday, could result in increased moisture from Friday through November 11.Regarding air quality, the Ministry of Environment reported that Taiwan's air quality will be mostly "fair" or "good" on Tuesday. However, an "orange" air quality alert has been issued for certain parts of southern Taiwan and the Matsu islands, suggesting unhealthy air conditions for sensitive groups, including the elderly, children, and individuals with cardiac or respiratory conditions.
