Sergio Tu Clinches Bronze in Time Trial at Asian Road Cycling Championships

Riyadh: Taiwan's Sergio Tu secured a bronze medal in the men's elite individual time trial at the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships held in Saudi Arabia. His performance also earned him a place at the 2026 Asian Games.

According to Focus Taiwan, Tu completed the 31-kilometer course in 37 minutes and 31 seconds, maintaining an average speed of 49.6 kilometers per hour. The gold medal was claimed by Kazakhstan's Yevgeniy Fedorov, who completed the race in 36 minutes and 11 seconds. His fellow countryman, Nicolas Vinokurov, son of the 2006 Vuelta a Espa±a winner Alexander Vinokurov, finished second with a time of 36 minutes and 56 seconds.

During an interview with the championships' organizers, Tu revealed his strategy for the race. He mentioned that he navigated carefully through sections with upwind or crosswind, conserving energy for the latter parts of the route where conditions were downwind. In these segments, he was able to reach speeds of 60 to 65 kilometers per hour.

This achievement marks Tu's second medal at the Asian Cycling Championships, adding to his silver medal from the men's elite individual time trial in 2023. While pleased with his bronze medal, Tu expressed that his ultimate aim is to secure a medal at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan's Aichi Prefecture later this year.
