Taipei: Over 15 centimeters of snow has accumulated on Xueshan (Snow Mountain) and other mountain peaks in central Taiwan's Shei-Pa National Park in recent days, the park's management office announced Monday. The significant snowfall has transformed the landscape, creating a picturesque winter scene that is attracting attention from hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.
According to Focus Taiwan, the snowfall has been most notable across the park's Shengling Hsien, or "Holy Ridgeline," with hikers sending back photos and videos showing a substantial blanket of snow covering the ground. Many trails throughout the park have also frozen over, presenting challenges for those trekking in the area.
On the main peak of Xueshan, as well as at Cuichi, Xueshan Cirque No. 1, and the Wuling Quadruple Mountains, more than 15 centimeters of snow has accumulated, according to the park office. Given these conditions, the park office has issued reminders for visitors planning to experience the snow. They urge individuals to closely monitor local weather conditions, ensure they are properly dressed and equipped for the cold, and recommend hiking in groups with a professional guide.
According to the Central Weather Administration, temperatures on the 3,886-meter Xueshan were expected to plummet to minus 5 degrees Celsius overnight Monday, with daytime highs only reaching 6 degrees on Tuesday. This forecast underscores the need for preparation and caution for those venturing into the wintry wilderness of Shei-Pa National Park.
