Taipei, Sinyi Realty Inc., a leading real estate company in Taiwan, has been designated one of the world's most ethical companies by the Ethisphere Institute, making it the first Taiwanese company to receive the honor.
The Ethisphere Institute, which is a U.S.-based organization that defines and measures corporate ethical standards, included Taiwan's Sinyi Realty among the 135 companies in its 12th annual list of the "World's Most Ethical Companies," which was published on Feb. 12.
Sinyi Realty spokesman Howard Chou (???) said "trust and loyalty" have always been the company's main values and have guided its daily operations for many years.
The real estate firm has invested heavily in business ethics, working with the Chinese Business Ethics Education Association to provide platforms for academic-corporate exchanges and with National Chengchi University to make corporate ethics a required class for business majors.
The Ethisphere Institute says it assesses companies based on five categories that added together give a maximum possible score of 100.
The five categories are ethics and compliance program (35 percent), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent), culture of ethics (20 percent), governance (15 percent) and leadership, innovation and reputation (10 percent).
Other notable honorees, which come from 23 countries and 57 industries, include 3M, CBRE, Intel and Microsoft,
