Songshan, Matsuyama airports eyeing resumption of charter flights

Charter flights between Taipei Songshan Airport and Japan's Matsuyama Airport are expected to resume in February 2023 after flights were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said on Wednesday.

During a meeting with CAA Director-General Lin Kuo-hsian (???) in Taipei on Wednesday, Ehime Prefecture Governor Tokihiro Nakamura said that he "very much looked forward to" the resumption of the charter flights and exchanges next year.

Charter flights between the two airports have been in operation since 2013, and were joined by regular flight services between Matsuyama and Taoyuan International Airport in 2019.

After the flights are resumed, tourism and bilateral visits would hopefully be revived, Nakamura said.

Lin said with the COVID-19 situation easing internationally, flights between Taiwan and Japan are expected to be increased gradually.

He expressed the hope that the resumption of charter flights would revitalize tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges.
